What is Environmental Management?
The study of Environmental Management concerns the concept of sustainable development in a world where the security of resources and life-sustaining systems is endangered by human impact. It draws upon disciplines such as biology, Earth science, geography and economics.
Learners gain an understanding of the Earth’s natural systems and how people use natural resources; they then investigate the impact of human development on the environment and learn how the environment can be managed sustainably in the future, from a local as well as a global perspective.

To understand the full range of management issues facing our global society, it is necessary to look at the four main categories of the environment: the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and the biosphere. That is rocks and the earth's surface, the water cycle, the air that surrounds us and the plants, animals and organisms that inhabit the planet. How we interact with these realities will be a key focus within our studies.
Task
Watch the 3 short video clips. In small groups, decide what the issue shown is in terms of the environment and sustainability, the range of ways that it may impact upon the environment and society, and attainable and practical solutions to these issues.

1. What is the issue shown? 2. What are the range of ways that it may impact upon the environment and society, both local and global? 3. What practical and achievable solutions are available for working toward solving the issues? |

Task
In small groups of 2 or 3, create a short video that describes and analyses an environmental topic of concern today.
Be creative with your choice of topic.
Ensure that you use valid evidence and that your video is analytical.
Consider the following questions and use the structure shown.
1. What is the specific issue and where is it located?
2. Which stakeholders and organisations are involved?
3. What has been the cause of the issue? (PEES)
4. What are the impacts at the local, regional and global level? (PEES)
5. How might solutions be found?
Remember to use point, evidence and evaluation, and to be analytical in your inquiry.
